The Academy of American Poets is a national poetry organization that supports American poets and to foster the appreciation of contemporary poetry. They connect poets to learning and publication resources, and their website features various articles and published poems, and information for poetry prizes, events and learning materials from a local to national scale. 

 

Asian American Writers’ Workshop

CantoMundo

CantoMundo is a national poetry organization that uplifts community for Latinx poets through wo­rkshops, symposia, and public readings. They also host their own annual retreat for Latinx poets at the University of Arizona.  

 

Cave Canem

The Cave Canem Foundation is a home and offers support to African American Poets. They offer various workshops, classes, and poetry prizes to African American writers. Their past events can be found for viewing on their YouTube page. 

 

Center for African American Poetry and Poetics at the University of Pittsburgh

The Center for African American Poetry and Poetics (CAAPP) at the University of Pittsburgh is dedicated to highlighting, promoting, and sharing the work of African American and African diasporic poets. They host various events featuring black poets and keep a large archive featuring works by Black poets and artists.

 

Indigenous Nations Poets (In-Na-Po)

Founded in 2020, In-Na-Po—Indigenous Nations Poets—is a national Indigenous poetry community committed to mentoring emerging writers, nurturing the growth of Indigenous poetic practices, and raising the visibility of all Native Writers past, present, and future. In-Na-Po recognizes the role of poetry in sustaining tribal sovereign nations and Native languages.

 

Kundiman

Kundiman is a non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting and nurturing Asian American writers and readers. They host various events and classes that are open to any Asian American poets and writers.  

 

Lambda Literary

Lambda Literary nurtures and advocates for LGBTQ+ writers. They host various events, contests and publications to support and celebrate LGBTQ+ literature.  

 

Poetry Foundation

The Poetry Foundation is an independent literary organization committed to increasing presence of poetry. They publish Poetry magazine, and the magazine archive is available on their website, along with a plethora of podcasts, news articles, videos and poems. They also host various readings, workshops and discussions online.  

 

Poetry Project

The Poetry Project offers various resources to promote, present and engage poetry within communities. They offer online and in-person workshops and keep their own online library and publications. 

 

Poetry Society of America

The Poetry Society of America (PSA) brings imaginative encounters with poems across local and diverse communities and amplifies the voices of poets and the social issues they speak on around the country. They host various events across the New York area and beyond, offer various awards and host the Poetry in Motion program, featuring poems on public transport systems, which have previously featured in East Lansing.

 

Poets & Writers

Poets & Writers (P&W) is a nonprofit organization that serves and helps with the development of writers. They host their own literary magazine and publishing database. They also host online readings and workshops and have a directory of writers and groups that can be filtered by interest area or geographical area. 

 

Split this Rock 

Split this Rock promotes poetry that bears witness to injustice and calls for social change, and promotes poetry as an agent to change. They host festivals, readings and workshops and host various awards and community collaborations, all of which can be found on their programs page. They also feature literary journals and organizations that engage with social issues on their resources page.

 

Teachers and Writers Collaborative

The Teachers and Writers Collaborative (T&W) offers creative writing programs to people of all ages and provides a variety of publications and recourses to support learning and improvement in within writers interested in poetry, fiction, playwriting, storytelling, video game narrative, or journalism. 

 

The University of Arizona Poetry Center

The University of Arizona Poetry Center promotes the sharing and archiving of poetry, and hosts events and readings. They also have an impressive collection of written, video, photo and podcasts for poetry.  

 

VIDA: Women in Literary Arts

Women in Literary Arts (VIDA) is a feminist nonprofit dedicated to creating transparency regarding gender imbalance and lack of diversity in the literary landscapes, and amplifies voices within other marginalized communities including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC); writers with disabilities; and queer, trans, and gender nonconforming individual. They host their own publications and events that support their communities.  

 

VONA: Voices of our Nations

The Voices of our Nations Arts Foundation (VONA) hosts multi-genre workshop for writers of color and honors the traditions and culture within their work. Workshops available can be found on their website. 

 

Zoeglossia

Zoeglossia is a literary organization dedicated to providing an inclusive space for poets with disabilities. They post a poem every week by poets with disabilities. They host an annual conference and retreat.
